Does PhysGramming satisfy the specifications of an educational software?
Literature indicates the positive effects of incorporating educational technology in the classroom, while, at the same time, emphasises the need of its evaluation. Before introducing technology to children, several factors should be carefully examined, such as; (a) the developmental appropriateness for children, (b) the provision of tools to assist teachers putting into effect the technology in a satisfactory way, and (c) the potentiality of being integrated in the curriculum and, finally, in the classroom.
While we were designing PhysGramming, we followed five key steps in order to ensure the construction of a digital environment that could be characterised educational. Thus, (a) we established learning goals for the young students, (b) we specified the hardware required, (c) we analysed and determined the features and the content of our digital environment in order to satisfy the established learning goals and (d) we created lesson plans to ensure the successful integration of our technology into the existing curriculum.
